Dr. József Kovács, dean of the Faculty of Theology of GFC, vicar, held a presentation at the academic year-closing conference on Canon law at Pázmány Péter Catholic University

This year's first meeting of the Hungarian Society for Canon Law was held on May 14th. The event has traditionally been linked to the academic conference of the Pázmány Péter Catholic University (PPKE), which is closing the academic year.

The 2018/19 academic year was the twenty-first year of education and research of the institute of law.

Szabolcs Szuromi Anzelm O.Praem, Rector of PPKE, in his opening speech highlighted that almost a quarter of a century of scientific work sufficiently proves that the Institute in Budapest provides outstanding education to its students, also in comparison with the faculties of Roman-Papal faculties. The responsible practice of the canon law profession plays a special role in the correct social interpretation of the twenty-first century mission of the Church, especially as regards marriage, family, priesthood, the authentic functioning of the Church, recognized forms of sacred and apostolic life, and the intrinsic relationship of sacred law to revelation.

The conference was held in the hall of Pope John Paul II, closing this year's academic year with the title of Church Government Power. Presentation was given by József Kovács, Deputy Justice of the Szeged-Csanád Diocese, on the concept and subject of government power; Péter Galambvári, Deputy Justice of the Greek Catholic Diocese of Miskolc, on the title and function of the exercise of government power; Zoltán Toman, PhD student at the PPKE Institute of Canon Law, on the issue of the cessation and replacement of government power; and Szabolcs Anzelm Szuromi Anzelm O.Praem on ‘The abuse of authority as a punishable act’.

The conference held in Hungarian language - as usual – was attended by students of the Pázmány Péter Catholic University, Faculty of Postgraduate Studies, Faculty of Science and Law and Political Science; canon lawyers in the institute or in the region; it also took place in the presence of the heads and professors of some faculties of the university.
