A new volume written by dr. István Thékes, senior lecturer and secretary for foreign affairs was presented on 7th December at Glattfelder Room of Gál Ferenc College in Szeged. The book was written on the topic of his research field, vocabulary assessment related to fundaments of corpora. The researcher summed up the experience of the past period and completed his book entitled ’Studies in the assessment of foreign language vocabulary’. The book was published by GFC Gerhardus Publishing first online then in print in autumn as well.
The moderator of the book presentation, dr. Zoltán Cora, senior lecturer of the English Institute of the University of Szeged. By the end of the event the room was filled tot he brim with TEFL teachers, applied linguists and other colleagues and family members. The event was opened up by dr. Gábor Kozma, rector of GFC, who highlighted in his opening speech that it is very important in the life of the institute that a new mental product was brought to life.
Dr. Zoltán Cora inquired in his introductory question into why the author had chosen this research field seven years earlier. It turned out from the answer that István Thékes, as TEFL teacher, primarily held vocabulary teaching the most efficient way of having student acquire language and he had been interested in the sound of words in his childhood. This was basically a direct way tot he empirical investigation of word knowledge. After the official conversation, the audience had the chance of asking questions and they took this opportunity. The questions covered a wide range of spectrum from applied linguistics through TEFL methodology up to cultural differences. After the event of great atmosphere, the author signed his book in dedication to those interested. The book is accessible in our library and also in the Somogyi library and the Klebelsberg Library of the University of Szeged.
